Tia Mané is a great cook. She is a maestro conducting the family’s culinary experiences. The kitchen is her stage, and she is the leading act. The space was a recent extension, intended to accommodate a new kitchen/living area where her family spend most of their time - this new kitchen’s aim was to allow her to be even more expressive. The space is south facing and opens to an outside area overlooking the Tagus River.
This room is located at the end of the corridor, and I thought it would be interesting to further accentuate the dark and closed atmosphere for the entrance - like an entrance of an artist moving from the backstage to the stage. A dark blue-grey color was used on the kitchen joinery, and it is intended to almost disappear into the shadows. The focus is always on the chef and her creations. The kitchen island, the center stage, faces the dining/living area, and the southern sun shines on Mané so the spectator can watch her performance.
